Cotswolds House

This home serves as a weekend retreat in the Cotswolds countryside for a couple and their three dogs offering the possibility of disengaging temporarily from city life and engulfing oneself in the wild fortitude of nature. The simple form of the house gathers beneath a folded seam roof which frames a central skylit living space. Its dark charred timber exterior settles quietly into the surrounding forest, nearby meadow,and distant landscape while within, warm timber and textured plaster line the interior surfaces reinforcing a tactile sense of shelter and enclosure—a protected vantage point from which to observe the ever-presence of natural light, weather patterns, and changing seasons in four cardinal directions. Corner rooms extend toward gardens, water, and distant views, allowing the rhythms of domestic life to pass freely between enclosure and the expanse of nature. This serene refuge provides the possibility of pondering both intimate and distant scales simultaneously while promoting contemplation, balance, and focus.
