Alentejo Co-Housing
Brejao, Portugal
Conceived as an architecture of aggregation, this proposal explores how individual dwellings gain strength, generosity, and identity through their relationship to one another. As each home adapts to site, climate, and orientation, a larger collective form emerges—one that creates sheltered courtyards, shared gardens, and protected spaces between buildings. These interstitial landscapes become the social heart of the community, giving equal importance to the spaces shared as to those held privately.
Rather than prescribing a single geometry, the project establishes a flexible system capable of responding to diverse conditions. Each aggregation becomes a unique expression of its landscape, while remaining guided by the same enduring principle: that architecture can foster resilience, belonging, and a richer experience of place through the quiet intelligence of collective form.
